Soup Bowl at the Green Cafe - Saturday 13th January
What could be better on a cold morning in January that a warm bowl of homemade soup? That’s what the Green Cafe served up on Saturday January 13th There was a choice from: vegetable, carrot and coriander, courgette and boursin, mushroom and sweet potato and red pepper. Each delicious bowl was served with crusty bread. It was so good many had a second helping! For ‘afters’ there was a small cake and the meal was nicely rounded off with a cup of tea or coffee.
How much would you pay for this in a cafe / restaurant? Well here at HG it was just £5.00 pp. Thrown in for free was the great company as the hall was alive with friendly chatter.
The morning raised £150 for Community Hall fund, but more importantly a wonderful social service was provided for our local community on a cold winter’s day.
Hearty thanks to all who made the soup and the cakes and helped on the morning. IF you were unfortunate to miss out – watch out for the next time this treat is on offer.
Posh Coffee and Crafts Exhibition - Saturday 14th September
Horseman’s Green Community Hall opened its doors on Saturday, not only for Posh Coffee, but also an exhibition of art and crafts made by our talented community. They were made by those attending activity groups in the hall – Art Group on a Tuesday, Community Art & Crafts on the 2nd Thursday and Inspired to Make on the 3rd Thursday of each month. A wonderful display showcasing the work of beginners, improvers and the seriously impressive artists and crafters in the area and, what’s possible when you have the support of these brilliant groups. Over 35 guests attended this month’s coffee morning, and we thank the bakers of Horseman’s Green once again for the wonderful cakes they make and donation, Thanks also to all who helped in the kitchen, serving and on the door. Money raised will be used to support the hall. A lovely morning! If you couldn’t make this one, the next is on October 19th October, when there’ll also be a jigsaw/puzzle table where for a donation you can take away something to keep you busy on cold autumn nights. Hopefully see you then.

Bingo Night - Friday 20th September
Another successful and well attended Bingo night. Many thanks to Jackie for the excellent refreshments and to the wonderful Bingo Caller, David Evans or "Doddy" to his friends.
Around fifty people took part which is a record for a Bingo night, so it is obviously proving to be yet another popular event on the Horseman's Green calendar.

Home Guard Talk by Adam Brodie - Wednesday 2nd October
On Wednesday night, Adam Brodie gave us a fascinating presentation about the Home Guard and their role in the local area.
We had an excellent turnout of 40 people. It was fascinating to hear about the stories from local family members of the Home Guard.
A particular favourite was the use of hand grenades to catch trout from the River Dee!!
Suffice to say, the supply of grenades were withdrawn!!!
It was obvious Adam had done extensive research for his presentation and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
We would also like to thank Vanessa Brodie for ably assistant Adam.
Hopefully Adam will visit us again when he has completed his next project - Local Chapels. So watch this space!!
Whist Drive - Friday 4th October
Yet another new event took place in the community hall, with a Whist Drive. It proved to be very popular and enjoyable. This will no doubt become another regular event on the Horsaeman's Green Community Hall calendar.
Poppy Coffee Morning - Saturday 2nd November
WOW! What a morning! Totally UNBELIEVABLE! We had 78 guests (30 from HG and 48 from what we call the ‘wider area’). We have NEVER had so many. Credit for this has to go to Yvonne and her helpers – Jac, Ella and of course Chris.
Yvonne had certainly worked hard to decorate all the tables with her homemade poppies, tea light holders and poppy petals – all a wonderful sight. Yvonne’s crafting talents didn’t stop with these table decorations as there also was a table of Poppy memorabilia made by her fair hands. Thank also to Vicky for donating a beautiful Flower arrangement which raised £125 via a raffle. Also Kim for her watercolour pictures of poppies which Yvonne had mounted as cards.
It was great to see so many wanting to support the Royal British Legion, as all monies taken on Saturday is being donated to this charity. £247 was raised on the door. Whilst the final amount raised is still unknown we are sure to have exceeded last year’s total. Thank you to you all for heeding the advice on November’s Newsletter and ‘NOT missing’ this event.
It was certainly a busy time for Andrea on the door and the team of helpers in the kitchen. Thank you to all the volunteers who stepped forward on this very special Saturday. Thanks also to all who baked cakes – and there certainly were some delicious looking ones. Unsurprisingly, given the numbers in attendance, all were eaten.
Once again, a very, very special thanks to Yvonne for all the hard work put into making this a very special and enjoyable morning. Certainly an annual date for our diaries.
